While I was living in Asia for 5 years, I found the best clinics for my needs in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with world-class service, English-speaking doctors, and good prices (not the cheapest, but value for money is excellent).
Doctors at all these clinics I have visited have gone above and beyond every time. I personally used their services for years! None of them asked or paid me to write this article; all opinions are my own.
I know how hard it can be to find health care abroad, and I also know how expensive it can be back home. If you have a bit of time and need your teeth fixed or just want to know more about your general health, visit Kuala Lumpur!

Taman Desa Clinic
I’ve used this clinic for my general health check-up, vaccines, and all things gynecology-related for 3 years.
I have the fondest memories and only positive reviews about Dr L. BENEDETE – she is kind, gentle, very knowledgeable, serious when needed, and easy going. Her nurses and she made every single visit easy and positive, and also super quick.
Some radiology doctors did their internship abroad, including Russia (very strong medical education), pathologists have post-grad diplomas from the UK and other countries, and everyone is extremely polite, professional, and delicate.
I’ve also got my shots of the HPV vaccine here.
- Pap smear usually costs me under 200 RYM, but if you want to be tested for HPV, the package is 450 RYM (107 USD)
- HPV vaccine – 590 RYM each (140 USD)
- Dengue (Qdenga) 430 RYM for both shots (102 USD)

Tip – if you need to wait for an hour for your test results to get done, spend this time with coffee and homemade treats at the cafe across the street – Front. Lovely owner Paul and his wife are amazing people to meet and chat with, and the place they created is super cool! A hidden gem
Medical Check Up at Taman Desa
I had this package below for 297 USD and all the results were ready in about 1.5 hours so I came in the morning and was done before noon.

What was included:
- Blood test
- Chest Xray, where I found out I have a bit of scoliosis!!
- Abdomen ultrasound. I’ve recently had one, so I replaced it with a neck ultrasound, and I assume you can do the same.
- Tumor markers
- Consult
- Cardiogram
I wanted to do brain MRI but couldn’t due to braces, but the price for those interested was only about 800 RYM (under 200 USD).
32 Pearls Dental
You won’t meet another dentist like Dr Tong Soo Huan for sure. The kindest soul, she has gone through intensive training in Malaysia, USA, Germany, and Australia.

I was absolutely terrified of dentists and I only had horrible experiences in Bali where I was living, so I chose to fly to Kuala Lumpur to see dr Tong every time I needed something teeth-related. I don’t regret it once.
Here I did: tooth feelings, air flow (and scaling when needed), implant, and braces.
What I love is that clinic has everything, from X Ray and different exam rooms to an official partnership with Invisalign. Everything is impeccable and high-end, while prices are very reasonable.
What I paid in 2024/2025 (of course, you should double-check the current prices!!)
- Composite Filling – 350 RYM (83 USD)
- Braces: installation 2000 RYM (475 USD), each check-up about 200 RYM (47.5 USD)
- Wisdom tooth extraction – 300 RYM (71 USD)
- Air Flow – about 100 RYM (24 USD)
- Scaling – for the full mouth about 130 RYM (31 USD)
- Implant: installation 5000 RYM (1189 USD), surgical guide – 500 RYM (119 USD), crown 2500 RYM (594 USD)
- CBCT scan – 600 RYM (143 USD)

I have to say, I was never treated with so much care and attention. My hypersensitivity, any request, everything was noted, and every process was painless. Yes, from implant to braces and beyond. I was happy to go to my monthly check-ups!

Kuala Lumpur Medical Tourism
In general, medical personnel in Kuala Lumpur is top-notch. There are a lot of private clinics, dental clinic, medi spas, and even health centers in shopping malls. Even Twin Towers have a medical center!
The quality of healthcare is so good here, that certain insurance companies in neighboring countries like Indonesia will cover surgery in Malaysia for premium subscriptions.
Despite Malaysia being a predominantly muslim country, I’ve never had any issues with visiting private clinics on my own, “not married” and was never asked any uncomfortable questions. You may think that’s expected and normal and I agree, but my experience with private Drs in Bali, Indonesia, was very different. I had lots of uncomfortable conversations and moments at receptions that I would not want to repeat.
Fair enough, you may note that prices are not as cheap as some advertised check-ups in South Korea, Vietnam, or even Thailand. I agree, Thailand has amazing medicine, Vietnam is said to have cheaper dental care, but my experience with Thai health check-up packages is that they are actually more expensive, depending on what tests you want.
Pleas note that both clinics are not really next to a metro station so I usually used Grab to get there from KLCC where I stayed, it was cheap and quick.
Things I Would Do In Thailand
I researched typhoid and rabies vaccines, and it was more expensive in Kuala Lumpur than in Thailand so I got mine in Chiang Mai
What I paid for vaccines at CM MediClinic
- HPV (I had to get one of the three here due to traveling in 2022), 6850 THB (215 USD)
- Thypoid, one shot, 1090 THB (34 USD)
- Rabies. Two shots, each 750 THB (23.5 USD)

I’ve also once had a pap smear at RAM Hospital – fantastic experience and the doctor, but it is much more expensive than in Kuala Lumpur. I paid about 3500 baht in 2025 (110 USD) for an ultrasound, consult, and pap smear.
